Federal Lawsuit Filed

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. -- It wasn’t quite the rollback a Milwaukee woman expected from a Libertyville auto dealer.

In a federal suit filed Wednesday, the woman accuses Liberty Auto City Inc. in Libertyville of rolling back the odometer of a car and selling it to her under false pretenses on Aug. 11.

Louise Richards, of Milwaukee, Wis. ., claims she bought a 2006 Chrysler Sebring with only 24,142 miles on the odometer on Aug. 11 from the auto dealer at 1000 E. Park Ave. in Libertyville, the suit said.

According to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation inquiry report attached to the suit, the car had 32,102 miles on it on April 28.

Richards claims the actual mileage of the car caused it to no longer be covered by the manufacturer warranty, the suit said. Liberty Auto City is a family owned and operated dealer of new and used autos since 1965, according to the dealer's Web site.

Claiming violation of the federal odometer requirement act as well as Illinois odometer laws, Richards is seeking actual, punitive, and other damages.
