TAMPA, FL - A Sarasota car salesman sold stolen luxury cars worth more than $266,000, court records show.
Paul Bombard has signed a document agreeing to plead guilty to three federal charges of transporting stolen vehicles.
According to the plea agreement, the Bradenton resident was a salesman at an unnamed Sarasota car dealership in September 2004 when he met with an FBI cooperating witness who was looking at cars there.
Bombard asked whether the witness was interested in buying high-end stolen cars or knew anyone who would be interested. Bombard said the formerly leased cars, which had been returned to the dealers, came from the Las Vegas area and that he could get as many as the witness wanted.
Bombard said he had three vehicles ready for sale – a Chevrolet Corvette, a Jaguar and a Mercedes-Benz.
The next month, the witness returned to the dealership and Bombard drove him to a condominium complex parking lot. He showed the witness a 2000 Corvette and gave him the keys. He said the car had been stolen in Nevada in November 2003.
Over the following months, Bombard sold the witness a stolen Mercedes-Benz E430, an Infiniti G35, two Porsche Cayennes, a Mercedes-Benz C230 and a Land Rover, the plea agreement states.
Most of the vehicles were stolen from car dealers in Las Vegas and Sarasota, and one was taken from a restaurant parking lot in Sarasota.
